Rayong has for long been a favourite vacation destination for Bangkok residents eager to escape the capital, as well as growing numbers of foreign visitors, and is often dubbed "The Riviera of Thailand". It is easy to see the attraction, with mile after mile of pristine white sandy beaches, a clear warm ocean and countless inlets, bays and tropical islands to expore. In adition to the stunning stretch of coastline the region also boasts fastinating culture, breathtaking nature and gastronomic delights. Rayong is truly one of the gems of Thailand, not be missed, and also has one of the best year-round climates in Thailand. 

Exploring Rayong

Rayong offers an incredible selection of attractions and places to visit including tropical islands and national parks. Koh Samed is the most famous island of the eastern seaboard with crystal clear water and white sandy beaches. There is even rock climbing at Khao Bo Thong on the island. From GlenAsia's Tropical Beach Resort and Residence, Koh Samed is easily visible and is just a short boat ride away for day trips. Boats to Koh Samed leave from Ban Phe, a charming harbour town 7km from Tropical Beach resort, where banks, supermarkets, restaurants and markets can also be found.  

Nearby Ban Kon Ao is a smaller fisherman's village, where traditional Thai fishing boats fish the local waters and a daily market sells the day's catch. Fishing is also a popular pastime, particularly for squid at night. The islands of Koh Kruai, Koh Kham, and Koh Pla Tin, off Koh Samed are good locations. 

For simply relaxing, Hat Mae Rumphueng and Laem Mae Phim are beautiful long beaches, ideal for swimming or just soaking up the sun. Both offer good selections for seafood Restaurants on the beach. The tropical islands of Koh Man Klang both have white sandy beaches great for snorkelling, while scuba diving among the coral reefs is possible at Koh Thalu. At Koh Man Nai there is a turtle conservation station initiated by Her Majesty the Queen.

Inland, Supattra Land Orchard is open for the public to explore by car or by foot and enjoy various kinds of fresh tropical fruits such as durian, rambutan and mangosteen. Visitors can self pick and sample ripe fruits straight from the trees. Khao Chamao - Khao Wong National Park has nature trails and some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the province.

For golfers there are four courses of international standard within Rayong province and in the neighbouring province of Chonburi, there are an additional 20 courses, making the eastern seaboard a golfers dream.
